Microfiction Daily Post #23 - Originally published in this form on Substack on 09/09/25
He was in the supermarket, getting his groceries for the week. He picked up an avocado and gave it a squeeze. The absurdity of the amount of pressure he felt at getting a perfect avocado made him grin in madness. He didn’t even eat the fucking things, but he was always the one buying them, and he could never tell if they were ripe enough. The only thing for certain was that when you needed one, there would be hundreds and none of them would be ripe.
An iron grip on his arm tore him from his musings.
Turning, he locked eyes with the most beautiful woman he had ever seen and was instantly lost in her piercing blue gaze.
“Whatever happens,” she said in distress, “come find me.”
A commotion from outside startled her, and she released his arm and fled, but as she did the grip softened, lingering there and holding him for an eternity.
And then she was gone.
Her pursuers pushed him aside and followed her at a run, while he stared at the place she once was.
